2009 Holiday Activities in Truckee Tahoe

Thursday, December 24th

Squaw Valley: The Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade is a beautiful and festive procession of lights starting at 6pm. Please note, no night skiing/riding on this evening.

Friday, December 25th

Tahoe Donner:  Ski with Santa – Join Santa for a half day of skiing and riding fun. The ski hill will open at noon. Visit www.skitahoedonner.com or call (530) 587-9444 for the most current information.

Squaw Valley: Live Music at The Auld Dubliner – 9pm

Sunday, December 27th

Tahoe Donner: Demo Day – Try the latest cross country ski equipment for free from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Trail pass required. For more information, contact the Cross Country Center at (530) 587-9484 or visit www.tdxc.com.

Thursday, December 31st

Tahoe Donner: Join us for a torchlight parade on New Year’s Eve. This event is for intermediate skiers and riders ages 10 or older who can ski or ride unassisted in the dark on our Racecourse run. Come early to secure a spot in the parade. A DJ and snacks will be provided in the bar area prior to the parade. Sign-up is from 4:30 – 5:45 p.m. with a 6 p.m. start time. Tahoe Donner: 5pm – 7pm Snowshoe by the light of the moon. If you have never experienced snowshoeing at night, you won’t want to miss this unforgettable experience. Join us for a guided snowshoe tour under the light of a full moon. Cost: $7.50; Does not include snowshoe rental fee. Register at Trout Creek Recreation Center or by calling (530) 587-9437. Bring your own snowshoes or contact the Recreation Coordinator at (530) 582-9649 no later than the Wednesday prior to the hike to arrange for a rental. Hot chocolate and snacks will be provided as part of each snowshoe tour.

Squaw Valley: The Auld Dubliner New Year’s Eve Bash! – 8pm.  Ring in the New Year at Tahoe’s favorite Irish pub, Champagne toast & live music.

Squaw Valley: Fresh Tracks New year’s Extravaganza – Squaw Valley’s “mature” guests can choose froma  myriad of New Year’s Eve celebrations including the LARGEST party on the North Shore at the Olympic House.  The Fresh Tracks New Year’s Eve Party is 3 parties in one, with live music and house DJ beats in all three Olympic House bars.  Tickets are $15 and guests must be 21 & older with a valid ID.

Squaw Valley:  Le Chamois & Loft Bar New Year’s Eve Party – Squaw Valley’s Le Chamois/Loft Bar has it going on two levels. Downstairs transforms into a dance club with DJs spinning disco & funk all night long. Upstairs the disco ball will be spinning. After 8 pm only guests must be 21 & older with a valid ID.

Squaw Valley:  Fireworks at Squaw Valley USA – 9pm – Begin or end your New Year’s Celebrations with Squaw Valley Fireworks

Squaw Valley: Coast to Coast Gold & Silver New year’s Eve parties at High Camp, el. 8200.  Come one come all and come dressed in gold and silver for this New Year’s Eve Extravaganza. The all-ages soiree includes a starry-night Cable Car ride, ice skating, a delicious dinner in the elegantly decorated Poolside Cafe, entertainment, and a 9:00 pm East Coast New Year’s champagne toast.  Tickets will be available at www.squawshop.com and in Squaw Valley’s Special Tickets office. Friday, January 1 2010

Tahoe Donner 5:00pm – 9:00pm: All kids aged 4 – 9 years old are invited to join us the first Friday of every month from 5 – 9 p.m. for an evening of games, activities, dinner, a movie and a bedtime story. Parents, enjoy a few hours to yourselves while our trained staff provides a fun and safe environment for your little ones at Northwoods Clubhouse. Cost is $15 per child and includes a pizza dinner. Space is limited; pre-registration and credit card payment is required at least one day in advance. Call the Recreation Coordinator at (530) 582-9646 to register or for more information.

2009 Truckee Ski Swap November 7th

When: Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Truckee-Donner Recreation and Parks Community Center, Church Street, Downtown Truckee
Cost: Admission is $1, Children 12 and under get in free.
Seller Drop Off: To sell items, pick up tags between October 27 and November 7 at the Truckee Community Center, then bring equipment to the public check-in between 7:30 and 9 a.m. on November 7. Merchant products come in on Friday, November 6 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Inside Info: Like North Tahoe’s, the Truckee ski swap has downhill, cross country and snowboarding equipment, as well as clothing and miscellaneous items.

2009 Cross Country Ski Swap

When: Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Tahoe Cross-Country Ski Area, The Highlands
Cost: Free admission
Seller Drop Off: Register your sale items Friday, November 13 from 2 to 9 p.m. at Tahoe XC.

Inside Info: The only swap geared exclusively towards cross-country ski equipment, including classic, skate skiing, snowshoeing, backcountry/telemark, clothing and accessories. The most popular items are top of the line skating gear, which can go fast, so be sure and arrive early for the best gear. Staff and volunteers are on hand to help you to understand what equipment may suit you best. The event is a fundraiser for the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association, which supports the popular Strider-Glider, Winter Discovery Center and Kids Ski Free programs at Tahoe Cross Country.
